ARTIST

BROTHER ED

Edward has been a Xaverian Brother for the past 62 years and has worked as a professional artist for over 40 years. He has had a wide-ranging career as an art educator, printmaker and watercolorist.

For many years, Ed was engaged in teaching at several Xaverian Brothers-sponsored schools. From 1980-90, he taught studio art at St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers, MA; and from 1992-98, he was an adjunct art professor at Regis College in Weston, MA. Currently, most of his time is spent teaching watercolor at the Milano Senior Center in Melrose, MA, as well as developing his own watercolor creations. Ed’s paintings are rendered in a traditional representative style but with an emphasis on the fluid nature of watercolor, vibrant color and strong value contrasts.

He says of his work: The beauty of watercolor is its fluid, transparent quality. It is a constant challenge to maintain this in each painting. I truly believe that this is the quality that makes watercolor lively and unique".

Ed’s subjects include: still life, floral and landscape motifs.

Brother Ed has been represented by several galleries in the Boston area, as well as both North and South Shores of MA. He has also exhibited in numerous one-person and group shows throughout New England and his work can be found in many private collections throughout the country.
